A Quebec Liberal MNA is looking to help parents of children with disabilities.
Linda Caron, the MNA for La Pinière, filed a petition Wednesday looking to eliminate administrative hurdles faced by parents when attempting to take advantage of benefit programs.
The petition had 2,028 signatures.
Caron is calling for better coordination between the SEHNSE program (Supplément pour enfant handicapé nécessitant des soins exceptionnels) and the payment mechanism.
She says the hurdles are due to two separate ministries managing each program.
“The current administrative complexity means that parents cannot fully access the programs planned for their child,” Caron said in a news release. “In concrete terms, this means that parents risk no longer being able to keep their child at home; it means that the family becomes poorer because at least one parent has to stay at home full-time to provide necessary care for the child; it also means repercussions for the other children in the family and it undermines the family balance.”
The petition was initiated by l’Étoile de Pacho, a network of parents of children with disabilities.
