Montreal tourism hits pre-pandemic levels in summer 2023

MONTREAL – Montreal’s tourism industry returned to its pre-pandemic performance this summer, according to Tourisme Montréal.
They report that the proportion of overseas travelers has never been higher. There were 15 per cent more this summer than in the summer of 2019, before COVID-19.
Average hotel occupancy was 80 per cent, and overall revenues were higher than in 2022.
Business conventions also bounced back, with major events seeing an in-person attendance rate of 72 per cent, 12 per cent higher than last year.
Tourisme Montréal President and CEO Yves Lalumière reports that the organization’s promotional efforts have paid off, as the number of potential visitors to the organization’s website increased this year.
Tourisme Montréal reports that a number of major conventions are confirmed for next year, including the International Skating Union, which will welcome some 7,000 delegates in March. In August, the Canadian Elite Basketball League will attract some 10,000 participants, while in September, some 5,000 golfers and sports enthusiasts will come to Montreal for the Presidents’ Cup.
