Halloween costume paw-rty for dogs at Laurier Park

“It brings so much happiness,” says Teresa D’Agostino, co-organizer of Montreal's third annual Pawloween Pawty, where dogs in costumes and their owners celebrated Halloween on Saturday. Pamela Pagano reports.

There was nothing spooky about this Halloween party.

Montreal dogs dressed up in adorable costumes made their way — with their sometimes-dressed-up owners — to Laurier Park on a sun-filled Saturday afternoon.

The happy pups took part in the third annual “Pawlloween Pawty.”

“A lot of people don’t even have dogs come to these events because it brings so much happiness,” said co-organizer Teresa D’Agostino.

“Dogs in costumes, we have humans in costumes.”

More than 140 dogs took part in the event, which included a costume contest. There were Chihuahuas, French Bulldogs, Golden Retrievers and more.

“There are many beautiful costumes and this is very enjoyable,” one attendee told CityNews.

“These dogs are so cute in their little outfits,” said another.

Creative costumes ranged from Princess Pooch to Santa Claws to Woody from Toy Story.

“Today she’s a scuba diver, but she doesn’t know how to swim, so it’s kind of funny,” one person said of their pup.

“This is my cloud, Bonnie, and I am the sky,” added another proud dog mom.

The “Pawlloween Pawty” was founded by Thien Vu Dang, who also hosts other paw-some events in the city like the annual Corgi Parade.

“The Corgi community is huge in Montreal,” said Dang. “And then we decided to do something for all dogs. So the following was a good occasion to invite all dogs to come and to have fun together.”

The third edition was made possible by a collaboration between a few different groups, like WOOPAW and the Pawsome Concierge team — a pet-sitting service in Montreal.

“We always like recruiting for caregivers,” said D’Agostino. “So a lot of people that don’t have pets that would like a pet, they’re welcome to apply to Pawsome Concierge.”
