The SPVM says a 31-year-old woman known to police was struck by a bullet while she was in her vehicle early Sunday morning.

Police say it happened on Jean-Rainaud Avenue and Jacques-Rousseau Street in RDP.

Montreal police received a call around 4:20 a.m. indicating the woman was injured.

“When the police arrived on the scene, they located the victim in a home where she had taken refuge. She was conscious and injured in the upper body by a firearm projectile,” SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils told The Canadian Press.

The victim was taken to hospital but her life was not in danger.

“The victim has a criminal record,” said Chèvrefils, suggesting the woman was known to police.

SPVM investigators and forensic identification specialists were called to the scene. The canine unit was also deployed.

No arrests have been made as the SPVM investigation continues.
