Man in critical condition, two others injured, after commercial building fire in Montreal’s Village

MONTREAL – A man suffered serious injuries in a fire Wednesday evening in a commercial building on Sainte-Catherine Street, near Montcalm Avenue, in Montreal’s Village, located in the Ville-Marie borough.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 6:45 p.m. when firefighters discovered a man lying on the ground, suffering from smoke inhalation.

He was taken to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Two other men were also injured and transported to hospital.

Firefighters managed to put out the blaze by 9 p.m. The circumstances and cause of the fire remain unknown.

Since at least one person was seriously injured, the investigation was transferred to the Montreal police (SPVM) arson squad.
