By The Canadian Press

Montreal police say a man was shot and injured in Rivière-des-Prairies early Sunday morning.

Police found the victim, a 24-year-old man, on 1st Street and 24th Avenue around 1:30 a.m.

“The 24-year-old man was quickly transported to a hospital with significant injuries to his upper body,” said SPVM spokesperson Jeanne Drouin. “According to the latest information obtained from the hospital, (his life) would now be out of danger.”

Police say a motive for the shooting is still unknown. Investigators are analyzing three different crime scenes.

A damaged vehicle believed to be connected was found abandoned at the next intersection, on Gouin Boulevard. Police believe the shots were fired at a third location, further east.

“The event would have occurred at the intersection of Maurice-Duplessis Boulevard and J.J-Joubert Avenue, in Rivière-des-Prairies,” said Drouin. “Shell casings were also found at this location.”

The three scenes were protected to facilitate the work of investigators. The canine unit was deployed and forensic identification technicians were called to the scene.

“The circumstances surrounding this event remain unclear at this time… There have been no arrests,” said Drouin.

The SPVM investigation continues.
