Police investigating emails containing bomb threats sent to Quebec schools, businesses

By The Canadian Press

The Sûreté du Québec is investigating “a massive batch of emails” sent to different organizations mentioning a bomb threat and demanding a monetary ransom.

No bombs were found in the locations targeted by those threats.

Schools, businesses and reservation platforms were among the institutions that received such emails, police say.

“The investigation aims in particular to locate and identify the person(s) responsible for this threat,” the SQ said in a Friday news release. “Several police forces in the province have received calls from establishments and organizations in their sector regarding the receipt of this email.”

The provincial police force is asking organizations and citizens who receive an email of this type not to respond to it, and to contact their local police department.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 1-800-659-4264.
