Paid parking hours extended downtown

By News Staff

Changes to paid parking hours downtown came into effect Wednesday.

The City of Montreal extended paid parking hours for a large portion of the downtown area.

Drivers parking in a metred spot must now pay from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m.

On Saturdays, drivers will have to put money in the metre from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Sunday hours are remaining the same – 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The changes cover the area near Concordia University, all of the Quartier des Spectacles and a portion of Old Montreal.

The maximum payment period will also be increased from three to five hours.

The city made the announcement in September and began putting stickers up alerting drivers of the upcoming changes.

City officials said the change was made to be “more in line with the opening hours of various businesses and cultural institutions” while also promoting “economic vitality”.
