The Montreal Carabins defence stood tall in a 16-9 victory over the UBC Thunderbirds in the 58th Vanier Cup.

This is Montreal’s second Vanier Cup title in school history.

The Carabins reached the Vanier Cup game with a dominant 29-3 victory over the Western Mustangs in the Uteck Bowl. Their defence has been the catalyst for their season allowing a league-low 93 points in the regular season.

UBC was making their first appearance in the championship game since 2015 when they beat the Carabins 26-23 for their fourth title. They have made six appearances in the Vanier Cup.

The Thunderbirds’ offence was on full display in the Mitchell Bowl with quarterback Garrett Rooker throwing for four touchdowns in a 47-17 win over StFX X-Men.

Montreal last appeared in the Vanier Cup in 2019 losing 27-13 to the Calgary Dinos. The Carabins last won a national title in 2014 and have been to four Vanier Cup games.
