Get those winter tires on, Quebec deadline Dec. 1

It may not look like winter in and around Montreal yet, but winter tires are mandatory in Quebec as of Dec. 1.

Drivers without them could be fined $200 to $300.

Under Quebec’s highway safety code, it’s mandatory to have winter tires on vehicles between Dec. 1 to March 15 inclusively.

“However, because spring conditions can be variable, it is recommended that you wait until a few weeks after the end of this period to install your all-season or summer tires,” according to the Quebec government.

"It's dangerous," says Anthony Piazza, owner of Montreal's ProShop Auto Clinic on the importance of installing winter tires. In Quebec, they’re mandatory from Dec. 1 to March 15 inclusively. Pamela Pagano reports.
