2 dead, 2 injured in head-on collision on highway near Mirabel

Two people died and two others were seriously injured after a head-on collision Saturday evening between Lachute and Mirabel.

The incident took place around 6:30 p.m. on Highway 50, near Chemin des Sources.

According to initial information from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), one of the two vehicles deviated from its lane, which caused the head-on collision.

In one of the vehicles were a 37-year-old driver as well as a female passenger in her 30s and a child. They were all seriously injured and taken to hospital, where the driver died of his injuries. The woman and child are not in life-threatening condition, police say.

The 74-year-old driver of the second vehicle, who was alone in the car, also suffered significant injuries and died in hospital.

Police officers specializing in collision scene reconstruction were dispatched to the scene.

Highway 50, between Route 329, in Lachute, and Route 148, in Mirabel, were closed in both directions for an indefinite period.
