The Montreal Community Cares Foundation hosted a gift-wrapping party on Sunday to bring a joyful start to the holiday season.
“Montreal is a great place and we have a lot of individuals who give back their time, their resources just to make sure that the younger generation have a good Christmas,” said Denburk Reid, the founder of Montreal Community Cares Foundation.
Kids from Westmount Park Elementary School and École Ludger-Duvernay came to receive the early Christmas presents.
“Those are two schools that we feel are very close to us from our basketball program,” Reid said. “It’s also schools that have kids from underserved communities.”
Community members and McGill’s men’s basketball team volunteered at the event to wrap 2,500 gifts.
“It’s a really humbling thing to come down here and take time out of our day to make sure that young kids get the opportunity to have Christmas presents,” said Ashton Meace with the McGill men’s basketball team
“I’ve been doing it since I was like three or two years old. I was wrapping gifts almost since I was born,” added Denburk’s son Devin Reid, who was there volunteering.
