After strong winds and record-breaking rainfall hit Quebec Monday, thousands were left without power on Tuesday.

As of Tuesday at 10 a.m., over 4,000 Hydro-Québec customers in the Gaspésie – Îles-de-la-Madeleine were in the dark, 3,000 plus in the Bas-Saint-Laurent, just under 2,500 in the Laurentians, over 2,000 in the Montérégie and about 1,000 in Esrie.

Hydro-Québec workers are working to resolve the outages.

Environment Canada said roughly 68 millimetres had fallen in Montreal by 10 a.m. Monday, which was already a record for a single day of rainfall in December. By 2 p.m. the total reached 77 millimetres, and by the end of the day it was expected to break 80.

The gloomy weather continues Tuesday with a mix of rain that changed to flurries. Snow accumulation is not expected.

Wednesday will bring sun and a high of minus one, with nighttime lows dropping to minus 10.

Thursday’s forecast is sunny with a high of minus four and a low of minus 11.
Friday, more sun and a high of minus five and a low of minus seven.
