Sunshine and cold for Montreal’s first day of winter

Sunny skies over Montreal for the shortest day of the year Thursday, marking the first official day of winter.

Back to seasonal norms for temperatures with a high of minus five for Thursday’s winter solstice day and dipping to minus 12 in the evening. Even more frigid temperatures overnight at minus 18, according to Environment Canada.

A sunny forecast for Friday also with a high of minus six, but minus 18 with the wind chill in the morning. The nighttime low will be minus nine.

Clouds will take us into the holiday weekend, with a high of minus four for Saturday. For Christmas Eve, more clouds with a high of minus 1.

On Christmas Day, Environment Canada forecasts a cloudy day with a 60 percent chance of flurries or rain showers and a high plus four.
