Police catch man driving 190 km/h on the Decarie

By News Staff

A man is facing thousands of dollars in fines after being caught speeding on a Montreal highway – more than 120 km/h above the speed limit.

Quebec provincial police say the 27-year-old was driving 190 km/h on the Decarie – where the speed limit is 70 km/h – on Wednesday around 4 a.m.

The Sûreté du Québec says officers spotted the driver, who was going north, at the level of Édouard-Montpetit.

The driver was fined $2,155 and received 24 demerit points. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days.

While there were no injuries, the SQ took the opportunity to warn drivers that speed is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads.
