Father and mother charged with kidnapping of one-year-old subject of Amber Alert

By News Staff

The father of the one-year-old at the center of an Amber Alert this week was charged with kidnapping Thursday morning.

The man appeared at the Montreal courthouse. He remains detained and is prohibited from communicating with the child’s mother and anyone else. His case will return to court on Friday.

The SPVM conducted a search of his Laval home on Wednesday and arrested him.

The child’s 18-year-old mother was charged Wednesday with abducting her child, as well as breaking and entering.

She is said to have allegedly broken into the home of the child’s maternal grandparents in Lachine and taken the girl on Tuesday morning, which led Montreal police to trigger the Amber Alert.

Police arrested the mother after the pair were found safe just after 2 a.m. Wednesday in an unspecified location in St-Laurent.

She is also appearing in court Thursday.

The prosecution is objecting to the release of the woman, whose identity is protected by a publication ban.
