Montreal may add rapid bus service or tramway on Jean-Talon west: report

By News Staff

Montreal may add a public transportation line, possibly a rapid bus service or a tramway, on Jean-Talon west.

According to La Presse, the line would span from the Cavendish Blvd. area to Parc Ave.

It would be approximately six kilometers long, as part of a complete redevelopment of the artery. The line would serve the area that contains 12,500 housing units.

It would be built at the site of the former Blue Bonnets Raceway and into the surrounding area.

The public transit line would also contain the longest express bike lanes in the entire city. The path would be 11 kilometers in both directions on Jean-Talon Street, from Cavendish Blvd. to Pie-IX Blvd.

Currently, Cavendish and Jean-Talon are not connected as it’s separated by a railway line. The plan would be to extend Jean-Talon by one kilometer to make the connection.

The City of Montreal says they are studying proposals submitted to them concerning the redevelopment of the area.

The blueprints for this project may be included in the upcoming urban planning and mobility plan expected later this year.
