TRANSCO school bus strike to continue for Montreal-area after holiday break

There has not yet been on a settlement on the TRANSCO bus strike that started Oct. 31, 2023.

Some 350 Montreal area school bus drivers are on strike, affecting the commute of around 20,000 students.

In an email sent Friday to parents of the Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB), they say that meetings are set for the week of January 8 and the board is waiting for updates from the meetings.

TRANSCO’s union members voted at 99 per cent to launch an indefinite general strike on Oct. 18, 2023 amid negotiations for a higher salary.

The LBPSB say they are continuing to offer extended supervision for families of elementary students before school and/or after school on regular school days, as class resumes on January 9.

“We realize the inconveniences this situation may cause and are working with all the parties involved to try to resolve this matter as quickly as possible,’ the letter says.

Parents can also authorize a third-party pick up their child from elementary school. Carpooling and public transit is also encouraged when possible.
