Common Front to update members on proposed agreement Sunday

By The Canadian Press

The common front of public-sector unions will take stock of its agreement in principle and consult with members Sunday, it says, after intermediate bodies met again Friday.

Consultation meetings of workers from the CSQ, APTS, CSN and FTQ unions will be held from mid-January to mid-February.

The four union organizations represent some 420,000 workers in the education and health networks.

The agreement in principle concluded Dec. 28 provides for salary increases of 17.4 per cent over five years, with a purchasing power protection clause for the last three years of the employment contract. It also contains improvements to group insurance.

Before consulting their members, the four union organizations also had to consult their intermediary bodies, both on sectoral agreements – working conditions specific to each sector – and on the intersectoral agreement – relating to salaries, for example.

The member organizations of the common front walked out for 11 days in November and December – one day, then three consecutive, then seven – before coming to an agreement in principle with the Quebec government.
