Members of Montreal’s Iranian community gathered in front of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on Monday – marking the fourth anniversary of the downing of Ukrainian Airlines flight PS752.
On January 8th, 2020, 176 passengers were killed, including 55 Canadian citizens, 30 permanent residents and others with ties to Canada.
The flight was shot down by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) shortly after taking off from Tehran.
Two surface-to-air missiles hit the plane causing it to crash near a village outside the Iranian capital.
The community and families of the victims are demanding Iran be held accountable.
They lit candles for each one of the passengers and held a banner with the faces of the 176 people who died.
They also held signs asking, “What is Your Purpose ICAO?” – demanding the International Civil Aviation Organization take “severe” action against the IRGC and the Iranian regime.

This was the second vigil in two days, with many taking place worldwide.
“We’re demanding for the government of Canada to put the Islamic Republic of Iran, the government and also IRGC, the military wings of the Islamic Republic of Iran as the terrorist organizations,” said a community member at a vigil on Sunday in Montreal.
