Public tribute to Daniel Langlois and wife to be held in Montreal

A public tribute will be held for Daniel Langlois, and his wife Dominique Marchand, who died last month on the Caribbean island of Dominica.

The Quebec film entrepreneur and philanthropist will be honoured at The Excentris complex on Saint-Laurent Blvd. – which he founded. They will open their doors Sunday, Jan. 14, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. to the public.

“Families and loved ones of Daniel and Dominique invite the population to come express their sympathy for a couple who, by its commitment and generosity, has marked the lives of many communities. To this effect, a register will be at the disposal of all present. This register will become a precious remembrance artefact which will be offered to the families and transmitted to the Daniel Langlois Foundation,” said a press release by the Daniel Langlois Foundation.

A farewell ceremony filmed in Dominica on Dec. 7, will also be shown at the Cinéma Parallèle theatre at the Excentris complex.

A webcast will be available for those unable to attend via Facebook and YouTube.

Langlois made a name for himself after founding the Softimage animation company in 1986.

A few years later, he created the foundation that bears his name and the Excentris complex.

He also developed an interest in sustainable development, most notably with the Coulibri Ridge ecological hotel resort on the island of Dominica.

The foundation adds the two left their mark on the lives of many communities through their generosity.

Langlois and Marchand were found dead on Dec. 1 in a burnt-out vehicle in Dominica.

Several suspects have been arrested in connection with their deaths.

The Excentris complex, an iconic venue for moviegoers in the early 2000s, is located at 3536 Saint-Laurent Blvd. in Montreal.
