Quebec installs speed cameras at Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel

By News Staff

Speed cameras are being added in the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel.

Quebec’s transport ministry says “mobile photo radar surveillance” is being introduced on Highway 25 – in both directions — at the level of the tunnel.

The province says the goal is to “ensure the safety of road users and workers.”

“It was observed that outside rush hours, some users did not respect the speed limit. Remember that it is 50 km/h at all times in the construction zone,” the transport ministry (MTQ) said in a news release Monday.

Orange signage has been installed to warn drivers of the possible presence of a photo radar.

“When an offence is detected by a photo radar, no demerit points are removed from the vehicle owner’s file, but the amount of the fine is doubled when the offence is committed in a road work zone,” the MTQ reminds drivers.
