After a lengthy investigation launched by police in 2020 into the smuggling and illegal online sale of cannabis, 10 people were arrested in the Montreal region.

In a press release sent out on Friday, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) says the investigation also led to the freezing of criminally obtained goods worth over $7 million, including more than $500,000 in cash.

Ten suspects were arrested on December 19. According to the police, these individuals appeared to be carrying out their criminal activities in the Montreal and South Shore regions.

The 10 men, aged between 35 and 65, were due to appear in court on Friday at the Palais de justice de Montréal to face charges including distribution and possession of cannabis, sale of cannabis, production, possession of property obtained by crime, money laundering and trafficking in substances.

Searches conducted during the investigation in June 2021 led to the seizure of 3,000 cannabis plants, 150 kilograms of cannabis in various forms, nine kilograms of hashish, cocaine and nearly 33 kilograms of psilocybin, known as magic mushrooms.
