The City of Montreal resumed snow removal operations after the latest storm over the weekend forced them to suspend that part of the work to concentrate efforts on sidewalks and making sure main arteries were cleared. Some more flurries are on the way, but no major storm ahead for now.
As of Monday morning at 9 a.m., on average, 59 per cent of snow removal operations have been completed across all boroughs from last week’s three storms. By 3:30 p.m. it was at 64 per cent. You can track progress through the city of Montreal’s website.
They have 3,000 employees deployed and 2,200 trucks on the road to maintain the snow operation in the coming days.
When the city was hit by another snowstorm over the weekend, 50 per cent of the snow clearing and loading job was done. “We’re trying to grab those piles of snow as fast as we can and at the same time, we’re keeping crews on the sidewalk in order to avoid slippery conditions,” said City of Montreal spokesperson Philippe Sabourin. “So we’re back in the little streets. We will grab those piles of snow. And then, once the operation will be completed, we’ll reset the operation to grab the snow that we got this weekend.”
Be aware of ‘no parking’ signs
“We will need days to complete the actual operation. So it’s going to be long. It’s a long journey for our crew. The conditions are not easy. We’re expecting citizens to be patient and to cooperate with the city. It’s important if there’s a loading operation, you must obey the ‘no parking’ signs. You have to move your car. We’re asking everyone to cooperate by moving your car at the appropriate time,” said Sabourin.
“Every time we have to tow a car, we’re losing time 10 minutes per car,” he continued. “This is why it’s so important to cooperate with the city. Move your car at the appropriate time. Then we’ll be more efficient.”
Tuesday could bring about 2 centimetres of snow starting in the morning.
Sunshine expected to return on Wednesday right through to the end of the week.
