Quebec teachers facing 23.5% pay increase in proposed deal

By News Staff

Some Quebec teachers could receive salary increases up to 23.5 per cent over five years – taking into account compound effect – if an agreement in principle with the province is accepted by members, according to multiple reports.

That applies to teachers within the Fédération des syndicats de l’enseignement (FSE-CSQ), which was represented in the common front coalition of unions during negotiations with the Quebec government.

The increase percentage depends on where teachers are on the pay scale currently. Teachers at the top, for instance, would receive a 17.4 per cent increase.

The teachers will vote on the agreement in principle later this week.

The common front unions representing 420,000 public-sector workers in the province were on strike 11 days between November and December.
