Senior dies in Laval house fire

By News Staff

A 71-year-old man died in a Laval house fire late Monday evening.

Laval firefighters received a 911 call at around 11 p.m. about the blaze in a single-family home on Jarry Blvd., near Chemin du Souvenir in the Chomedey district.

When they arrived on scene, flames and smoke were coming out of the home’s window.

After entering the residence, they found the man on the floor and performed CPR.

He was transported to hospital, where he was declared dead.

Firefighters say the smoke detector was not working at the time of the incident — and that the cause of this fire is believed to be accidental, but an investigation is underway.
