Second FAE teachers’ union votes against agreement in principle with Quebec

Members of a another union affiliated with the Fédération autonome de l’enseignement (FAE) voted against the agreement in principle with the Quebec government.

At a general meeting held Wednesday night, members of Basses-Laurentides Education Union (SEBL) voted against the agreement in principle by 72 per cent, the union announced on its Facebook page.

SEBL did not provide any further information, including the number of members who attended the meeting and voted. They represent around 7,900 teachers at the Mille-Îles School Service Center.

Only one other union, the Syndicat de l’enseignement de la région de Laval, rejected the agreement so far – by 68 per cent.

And four unions have already voted to accept the agreement in principle.

Five of the nine unions affiliated with the FAE and a majority of its 66,500 members must ratify the agreement in principle for it to be accepted. A decision will be announced Feb. 7.

The Syndicat de l’enseignement de la région de Québec will hold its own meeting on Thursday night.
