Boil water advisory in effect for some on Montreal’s South Shore

By News Staff

The city of Châteauguay issued a boil water advisory on Monday due to “a technical problem” that occurred at the Marchand drinking water production plant.

The preventive advisory is in effect for all municipalities served by the water supply network:

  • Châteauguay
  • Mercier
  • Léry
  • St-Isidore
  • St-Urbain-Premier
  • Ste-Martine

They ask citizens to boil their water for one minute before consuming it, brushing teeth, make ice cubes or wash or prepare food.

“You can use unboiled tap water to shower, bathe or wash your clothes,” the city of Châteauguay said in a news release. “For young children, it is recommended to put very little water in the bathtub, so that they cannot swallow it, and not to let them play in the water.”

They add that samples would be taken to check water quality — the advisory could be lifted within 24 or 36 hours.
