Man found dead in downtown Montreal

By News Staff

A man was found unconscious behind a building in downtown Montreal on Friday morning.

He was discovered lying on the ground on Stanley Street, south of René-Lévesque Blvd. west, by citizens who called Montreal police (SPVM) around 8 a.m.

“When the police arrived, the man was pronounced dead,” said spokesperson for the SPVM, Constable Sabrina Gauthier.

The crime is being called a suspicious death for now, possibly a murder. Gauthier says blood was found on the scene. The hypotheses of a homicide or a fall on the sidewalk are being considered.

Gauthier adds that the body was found lying near the premises of the St. Michael’s Mission, a shelter.

An investigation is currently ongoing and a security perimeter has been setup in the area.
