Manoir King David in Côte-Saint-Luc is closing its doors, meaning more seniors are going to find themselves evicted. The private seniors’ residence, known as an RPA, is expected to be turned into an apartment building.
Nearly 80 seniors will have to move.
This is the latest in a number of RPAs that have closed or are being closed in the province.
CityNews reached out to the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal and they say they are aware that the Manoir “will close on September 30.”
“The facility’s 77 residents now have a file at CLSC René-Cassin, each assessed by a professional of SAPA-SAD (Soutien à l’autonomie des personnes âgées – volet soutien à domicile). We are also prepared to provide support to each resident or family member who is looking for a new place to live. In addition, our CIUSSS’s SAPA and Quality teams have participated in two information sessions, where residents and their families had their questions answered,” said Carl Thériault, from the CIUSSS in an email.
Built in the 1970s, the eight-storey building was one of the few RPAs in Côte-Saint-Luc.
Some residents will be relocated to another nearby RPA.
Manoir King David is listed as an RPA for semi-autonomous residents. Services include personal assistance, nursing care, domestic help, meals and recreation.
A recent report showed that 2,500 seniors had to relocate in 2023 due to RPA closures. Résidence Jardin botanique in Montreal recently also said it would be closing.
Last week, Sonia Bélanger, Minister responsible for Seniors, unveiled a five-year, $200 million allocation program designed to stem the tide of small seniors’ residences closing.
