Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne in Montreal is where Narjess Ben Yedder graduated last year with a major in software quality. She moved from Tunisia to Canada a few years back with her husband Mustafa Meshkin — whom she married in 2021 — and they were building a life here.

But her dreams were taken away when she was stabbed to death on January 26. Her husband was charged with second-degree murder.

The college remembers her as a hardworking and brilliant student.

“It is so sad that we didn’t see that coming, we couldn’t do nothing because she has this joy in her face and always to go forward so we can’t believe that something so bad will happen with her,” said Sonia Gounar, a professor at Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne.

“I didn’t teach her but I heard a lot about her. We met sometimes like three to four times and the last time I saw her was when she came to take her diploma and she was so happy and so beautiful, her face was shining and I remember this photo from her, I prefer to keep this photo of her.”

Ben Yedder got a job shortly after graduation and Professor Gounar said the college was not surprised as Narjess was determined to success

“She got a job, a good, very nice job at SIGMA-HR,” said Gounar. “We were very proud because not all of the students got jobs when they finished their studies so she was very good at her studies.”

Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne held a minute of silence on February 2 to remember Ben Yedder, and started a new initiative to raise awareness on violence against women.

“Here’s what the college did. They will make a place for girls who were killed like girls in Polytechnique and Narjess her name will be on that list to memorize what happened to her, and that people can see that narjess was a member of our family,” explained Gounar.

“There is the syndicate of Bois du Boulogne, there are some women who sent us a big document and told us what happened to Narjess. All the community is so sad, and what can we do to avoid that in the future, what can we do to help students young student to avoid what happened to her.”
