Four Montreal businesses hit by Molotov cocktails in two hours

Montreal firefighters were busy overnight, with four arsons set during a two-hour period.

No one was injured, but at one of them, which broke out around 3:35 a.m. in NDG, caused considerable damage to a building and required evacuations. An incendiary object was allegedly thrown through a window of a commercial premises on Monkland Avenue.

The flames spread to the second floor and prompted evacuations.

Earlier, between 1:40 a.m. and 2:45 a.m., three more fires. In all cases, incendiary objects were thrown through windows.

The first broke out in RDP, around 1:40 a.m. in a commercial building on Maurice-Duplessis Blvd., near the intersection of 41st Avenue, and triggered an alarm. The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters, which limited the damage.

Between 2:20 a.m. and 2:45 a.m., two other fires were started in the same way in two commercial buildings on Marcel-Laurin Blvd., near Thimens Blvd. In both cases, the damage was minor.

The four fires are being investigated by the arson squad of the Montreal Police (SPVM).

No arrests have been made so far and it’s still unclear if there is any link between the arsons.
