Residential building fire in Montreal’s Village

A fire at a residential building on Ontario Street, at the corner of Saint-André, in Montreal, on Monday afternoon.

The fire department triggered a third-alarm around 1:39 p.m. and asked people to avoid the area. Power could also be cut as they worked.

Montreal police say they opened an arson investigation and arrested a woman in connection to the incident.

“The fire occurred in the bedroom,” said SPVM spokesperson Sabrina Gauthier.

Some 50 firefighters rushed to the scene in Montreal’s Village.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

No injuries have been reported.

By around 2:30 p.m. it seemed the flames were out.
