Man dead after apartment fire in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

A 66-year-old man who was critically injured after a fire broke out in an apartment building Wednesday has died.

Montreal Police (SPVM) reports that the fire started in La Petite-Patrie shortly before 3:30 a.m. in the building located on Christophe-Colomb Ave., near the intersection of Bélanger Street east.

They found the man suffering from smoke inhalation. He was transported to the hospital where he later died. 

The occupants of around 10 apartments in the building were evacuated. 

After firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) were able to extinguish the fire, the occupants were eventually able to re-enter the building.

The investigation was transferred to the SPVM arson squad where they determined the cause of the fire was accidental.
