Vietnamese student associations at McGill, Concordia celebrate Lunar New Year

“It’s incredible to come together in celebration of our rich heritage and traditions,” said Vinh Chung, vice-president of events for the McGill Vietnamese Student Association about the Year of the Dragon celebrations on Sunday in Montreal.

The Vietnamese student associations from McGill and Concordia University came together to celebrate the Year of the Dragon Sunday.

The two student groups hosted a Lunar New Year event with activities like a do-it-yourself jewelry station, a nail salon and a photo booth. There was also a fortune teller, traditional casino games and a fashion contest.

Live performances included a classic lion dance and a martial arts demonstration. The event also offered several food stations serving up Vietnamese cuisine.

The celebrations were all part of Lunar New Year festivities that can last up to 16 days until the arrival of the new moon, which is marked by the Festival of Lanterns.

Vinh Chung, the vice-president of events for the McGill Vietnamese Student Association, says the Year of the Dragon brings great prosperity.

“It’s incredible to come together in celebration of our rich heritage and traditions,” he said.
