A fire in Longueuil sent three people to hospital, after an apartment building went up in flames late Tuesday night – and multiple families are now left without a home.

Firefighters were alerted by calls to 911 around 11:30 p.m. about a fire in a six-unit building on Chemin Chambly, near Leblanc West Street.

Upon arrival, firefighters rescued one person trapped on the balcony of the apartment where the fire had started.

Two women and a man were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation, but there is no danger to their lives authorities say.

Firefighters say they have reason to believe the fire was a result of an electrical problem.

The Canadian Red Cross is helping some of the evacuated families and damages to the building are extensive.
