Heavy rain and snow expected in Montreal this weekend

By News Staff & The Canadian Press

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Montreal on Thursday warning of a “major weather system” starting Saturday that will include rain and snow throughout the weekend.

The statement applies to the regions of Montreal, Pontiac, Laurentides, Haute-Mauricie, Eastern Townships, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Estrie, Centre-du-Québec and Bois-Francs.

The precipitation is expected to change into snow on Sunday night and could continue until Monday.

In the federal weather agency’s warnings, it points out that the accumulated snow could be “heavy and sticky,” which could add considerable weight to structures and trees, making them more vulnerable to damage.

Thursday’s forecast will be mainly cloudy, with a high of plus 9 and a low of minus 5.

The windchill is expected to feel like minus 11 overnight.

Plus 9 degrees on Friday, 6 on Saturday, 5 on Sunday and dipping to zero on Monday.
