An 18-year-old was arrested in connection with two arsons. One in the Vaudreuil-Dorion Walmart and another in a Piedmont residence under construction.
In a press release Thursday afternoon, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) says the young man from Hudson was taken into custody on Feb. 20 and charged on March 1.
On Feb. 20, around 9:30 a.m., police officers were called to the Walmart on de la Gare Blvd. in Vaudreuil-Dorion due to a fire. The premises were evacuated, and one person suffered smoke inhalation at the time of the incident.
On December 13, 2023, SQ report that the same individual was involved in another arson attack on a residence under construction on Chemin des Achillés in Piedmont. No one was injured in that incident.
“Thanks to the joint investigative efforts of the MRC de Vaudreuil-Dorion, the MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut and the Sûreté du Québec’s Major Crime Investigation Division, the man was arrested on the same day as the latest incident. He appeared at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse on February 21 and March 1, charged with arson in connection with both events.”
