The Centre des Femmes Solidaires et Engagées and Solidarité Ahuntsic organized a march in celebration of International Women’s Day on Friday.

The walk began at 11 a.m. in Ahuntsic, with many supporters in attendance.

Alexandra Vakaloulis is the head of communications at Solidarité Ahuntsic and said she’s seen women struggle every day.

“I’ve been working at the community center for almost a year and a half, and I’ve seen women struggle every day towards housing or with food issues and everything and we wanted to put that in front of everyone today. So that’s the reason why we wanted to walk and to give these women and organisms a voice today.”

March 8 is a day where female accomplishments are celebrated around the world.

Pina Di Pasquale is the executive director at the Centre des femmes solidaires et engagées.

She said that women are strong and are always ready to fight for their rights in society.

“We live in a world where it’s upside down. Really big change in society,” Di Pasquale explained. “And this march for me means, hey, come on, let’s get it together, let’s make positive changes. We want a society that is not surviving but living. Everybody has the right to live.”

There were several members of various organizations who participated in the event, including Québec solidaire MNA Haroun Bouazzi.

He hopes that his daughter will fight for her rights in the future.

“We obviously did a lot already for the past century, but I hope that she will be a fighter and that the patriarchy will be scared of her.”
