3-alarm fire at Sherbrooke and Parc in downtown Montreal

By News Staff

Montreal firefighters are fighting a major fire at the corner of Sherbrooke Street and Parc Avenue, near Bleury, in the city’s downtown core.

Firefighters received a call around 10 a.m. that a fire appeared to have started in a series of three-storey-high century-old buildings on Sherbrooke.

Upon arrival, they saw that only one building, which is unoccupied, was affected and the fire was raging on the two upper floors.

More than 100 firefighters fought to ensure the blaze did not spread. By Wednesday afternoon, the fire had been contained, but is still not fully under control.

The fire and the roughly 30 fire trucks forced the entire area to be closed off to traffic and caused major traffic disruptions and headaches for drivers forced to detour.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, and no injuries have been reported.
