Man struck by train in Montreal, will survive

By News Staff

A 71-year-old man was seriously injured after being hit by a train on Thursday afternoon at the Montreal west train station.

According to Montreal police (SPVM), the victim was trying to cross the tracks when he was hit at around 4:20 p.m.

The senior is being treated for injuries to his upper and lower body, including head trauma, but authorities say his life is not in danger.

SPVM officers believe the incident was accidental and that the man was likely wearing a hoodie, so he would not have seen the train coming.

In addition, a second train was arriving from the other direction, so the victim may have attributed the train noises he heard to the second train, without noticing that another was coming.

Service was temporarily interrupted on the Vaudreuil-Hudson commuter train line.

The two train conductors were treated for shock.
