Court extends ban on protesting outside Jewish community buildings in Montreal

By News Staff

A temporary injunction barring certain pro-Palestinian groups from protesting near some Jewish community buildings in Montreal was extended Friday.

The injunction that was initially granted for 10 days will be in place another six months, following a decision by the Quebec Superior Court.

Protesters from the groups in question are required to stay 50 metres away from such buildings as the Federation CJA, the Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA, Herzliah and Talmud Torah and Spanish and Portuguese synagogue.

In a news release, Federation CJA says the injunction applies to 20 organizations and 27 community buildings.

The initial temporary injunction was in response to back-to-back protests in front of some of the community buildings in early March.
