A 67-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Montreal on Thursday night.

A call to 911 was placed at 8:30 p.m. about a fire that broke out on the corner of Fullum Street, near Hochelaga Street, in the Sainte-Marie neighbourhood.

Firefighters from the Montreal fire department (SIM) located the woman unconscious inside the building, and she was transported to the hospital.

According to Montreal police (SPVM), she was in critical condition, but has since improved, and her life is no longer in danger.

The fire was quickly controlled, and there were no other injuries.

The incident will be transferred to SPVM’s arson squad, and they will visit the scene on Friday to determine the circumstances of the fire.

Officers do say that at first appearance the fire seems to have been accidental.
