‘We’ve brought the community together’: Insieme Montreal celebrating 15 years

“We just built a community,” says Stevie Vecera, founder of Insieme Montreal who has been showcasing the city’s Italian culture for 15 years now. They're ready to celebrate the anniversary with a big bash in Laval on May 19. Pamela Pagano reports.

From creating videos on social media to hosting parties — Insieme Montreal has been showcasing the Italian culture for 15 years now and they’re ready to celebrate that.

Their annual party — set to be bigger than ever on May 19th to mark their big anniversary.

“I love Insieme,” said Stevie Vecera, founder of the page. “Insieme, means together.”

Montreal’s DJ Stevie V created Insieme after Italy won the FIFA World Cup in 2006 –- a way to continue brining the Italian community together.

“We just try to situate more with the Italian community,” explained Vecera. “You’re going to find out where the best cafes are, the best restaurants, the best events, like ours of course.”

The page has grown to now having a team of correspondents sharing Italian recipes, or pizza and cannoli reviews to their over 21,000 Instagram followers.

“I enjoy doing these videos,” said Anthony Viscusi, correspondent for Insieme Montreal. “Just to bring back that little lost heritage that we have from the Italians.”

“Many of us don’t speak it as well as we used to,” he added. “We’re just trying to bring back our culture back together.”

And the community, truly coming together on May 19th –- celebrating the anniversary at Laval’s Embassy Plaza.

An abundance of food and music is expected — with local DJ’s playing new and classic Italian hits.

A special guest will also be hitting the stage: Heidi Klum’s 2016 Golden Buzzer recipient.

“We have Sal ‘The Voice‘,” said Vecera. “He’s from America’s Got Talent and we brought him in.”

“Every event we’ve done we’ve brought the community together,” said Mass Min, partner at Insieme Montreal. “Honestly, we really enjoyed ourselves.”

“Created many memories for many people.”

The event, one of the pasta-bilities to spice up your Victory Day weekend.

Organizers say that all who want to celebrate can purchase a ticket online.

“15 years of doing this,” said Vecera. “The parties, the cultural events, all the social media that we’ve been doing, we met so many people.

“We just built a community,” he added. “Insieme Montreal, I just love it.”
