Sherbrooke MNA, Christine Labrie, has been named the interim female co-spokesperson for Québec Solidaire (QS).

The party made the announcement at noon on Thursday, a few days after the resignation of co-spokesperson Émilise Lessard-Therrien.

Incidentally, Labrie entered the race to become the party’s female co-spokesperson, but she finished third and was eliminated in the first round last Nov. against Lessard-Therrien and Ruba Ghazal.

Labrie will therefore team up with Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois in the party’s two-headed female-male leadership, until a female spokesperson is officially elected.

“The last few days have been tough,” wrote Nadeau-Dubois in a Tweet on Thursday. “But today we have good news to tell you.”

“Christine Labrie is now the interim female spokesperson for our party,” he added. “She will occupy these positions until a new spokesperson is elected by our members this fall.”

On Monday, Lessard-Therrien announced that she would not be returning from her sick leave and would be resigning after a few months in office.

She criticized Nadeau-Dubois’s small team at the helm of the party.
