The driver of the F-150 pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run that killed a man Thursday as he went to change a tire on Highway 15 north – turned himself into police.

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said Sean McLean, 43 years old, appeared at the Laval courthouse on Friday afternoon, charged with hit-and-run causing death.

McLean showed up at a police station in Lachute, in the Laurentians, on Friday morning to surrender.

According to the SQ, the incident happened around 5:15 a.m. on Thursday on the Gédéon-Ouimet bridge, which links Laval to Boisbriand.

SQ spokesperson Elizabeth Marquis-Guy said the victim got out of his vehicle that was stopped in the right-hand lane, due to a flat tire, to change it – before the collision occurred.

“As the driver got out of his vehicle to change the tire, a pickup truck was unable to avoid him and hit him, before leaving the scene,” said Marquis-Guy.

The victim, Mohamed Chouat, in his 30s, was pronounced dead on location. He had been on his way to work when it happened.
