PWHL playoffs: Boston beats Montreal in game one

"The whole crowd hated the loss," said Lindsay McLaren, hockey fan at Laval's Place Bell on Thursday night after PWHL Boston beat Montreal in overtime for their first playoff game of the series. Pamela Pagano reports.

Montreal’s Professional Women’s Hockey League, the PWHL, faced Boston Thursday evening in game one of their playoff series.

The crowd of over 9,000 fans watched PWHL Montreal’s Ann-Renée Desbiens stop 24 shots before the team lost 2-1 to Boston in overtime.

“The whole crowd hated the loss,” said Lindsay McLaren, hockey fan. “We really wanted to see them win tonight.”

“We’re finally back for playoffs in Montreal,” said Christine Bandeja, PWHL Montreal fan. “And this time it’s about the ladies!”

Hockey fans made their way to Place Bell in Laval where a new Montreal-Boston hockey rivalry was ignited.

Game two in this best-of-five series is set for Saturday night –- at Place Bell too.

“Our team made the series and we’re playing against Boston,” said Josée Gauthier who drove nearly two hours with her friends to catch the game. “So let’s hope it’s a big rivalry.”

The postseason already started on Wednesday for Toronto-Minnesota.

Toronto took the win with a score of 4-0.

“I’m excited because we’re going to see girls play,” said young hockey fan, Leanna Bonos. “And they’re going to be, I think, really good.”

“They’re a great team,” added PWHL Montreal superfan, Nancy Durdon. “They’re my team and I want them to win.”
