By The Canadian Press

A 26-year-old man was in critical condition in hospital Saturday after being stabbed while leaving a bar in Montreal, according to police.

Emergency services were called Saturday around 3 a.m. to a bar on de Maisonneuve Boulevard near Peel Street.

The alleged stabbing took place during a fight in an alley, Montreal police say.

“When the police arrived, they located a victim, a man in his 20s. He was conscious and injured in the upper body by a sharp object,” said SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.

The man’s condition was critical but stable as of late Saturday morning.

“According to initial information, a conflict degenerated in the alley between several people and it was at this moment that the victim was injured by a sharp object,” said Chèvrefils.

The suspect or suspects fled in a vehicle before police arrived.

“Witnesses to the event were met by the police. Checks will be made on possible surveillance cameras located near the premises,” Chèvrefils added.

There have been no arrests. The SPVM investigation continues.
