Several people ‘seriously injured’ after taxi driver fails to stop for Montreal police, BEI investigating

By News Staff

At least three people are in hospital with “serious injuries” after a taxi failed to stop for police and then crashed into several other vehicles in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges, according to the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI).

It all started around 8:30 a.m. after a police officer (SPVM) noticed a vehicle committing a traffic violation.

As the cop attempted to intercept the vehicle, the driver allegedly continued on its way, colliding with two other vehicles.

It happened at Decarie Blvd. and Ferrier.

“Several people were transported to various hospitals with serious injuries,” said the BEI in a press release on Monday afternoon.

Reports are that the occupants of some of the vehicles were trapped inside and the ‘jaws of life’ had to be used to free them.

The driver is set to be questioned by investigators.

The age of the victims was not specified by the authorities.

The BEI launched their investigation at around 12:22 p.m. Nine BEI investigators have been assigned to the case to shed light on the SPVM intervention.

The support of the Sûreté du Québec was requested to help in the investigation – specifically with the cab driver’s actions.

The incident forced the closure of a portion of Decarie Blvd. north, as well as the Jean-Talon exit of the 15 north for most of the day Monday.

The BEI is asking anyone who may have witnessed this event to contact them via their website at bei.gouv.qc.ca.
