By News Staff

A portion of Highway 40 will be closed overnight as work continues on the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge.

According to the Transport Ministry, the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge will be closed between des Anciens-Combattants Blvd. (exit no. 41) and Saint-Charles Avenue in Vaudreuil-Dorion starting Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. until Wednesday at 5 a.m.

The bridge is expected to be open heading eastbound towards Montreal.

Traffic lane changes

Repair work on the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge has developed enough to allow traffic lane changes, said the Transport Ministry.

As of May 27, the centre lane will be used for alternating traffic.

Two out of the three lanes headed to Montreal will be open from 12:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. on weekdays, and two lanes will be open heading towards Vaudreuil-Dorion from 12 p.m. until 10 p.m. throughout the week.

  • Toward Montreal, the right lane of Highway 40 will be reserved for exit 35.

There will be a complete closure of the bridge on May 24 to 27.

According to the Transport Ministry, they expect all lanes to be open on the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge by fall 2024.

The new bridge is scheduled to be ready by the end of 2027.
